What to consider when Boarding your dog
Book Early:-
At busy times of the year, especially at school holiday times, you should book your kennel as early as possible, not only to save you a mad panic three days you are due to go away, when every kennel for a hundred mile radius is full, but a little planning will help reduce the stress for both you and your dog:
- The more notice you give allows you to ensure that your dog is properly vaccinated to your boarding kennels requirements. If you dog is not vaccinated, you will not be able to board them.
- If you have never boarded your dog before and you have booked a good way in advance , it may be beneficial to book your dog in for a 1 night stay before the main visit. This introduces the dog to the kennel and it's environment and it also prepares you so that when every thing is a mad dash when you've got a plane to catch, you are prepared for what you need to do when dropping of your dog.
Bring along something
with your smell on it:-
While you are away, it can be comforting for your dog to have a reminder of you. An old t-shirt or shirt that is lying at the bottom of the wash basket will do.
This month's tip:
Most people tell me that their dog knows that it is coming to the kennels, which is probably true, because your whole routine changes and for most people its a mad panic.
When boarding your dog, try to make the drop of process as stress free as possible, don't just throw everything in the car and head off, maybe go for a walk on the way, or drop off the night before, so that you can concentrate on just sorting yourself out when its time to go.
